Huil Thrasher doesn't deny his horse, Joe looks sick. For the past two weeks, he says Joe has been battling colic. That's an illness Thrasher says can come from moldy hay. But Joe's exposed ribs and inability to stand on his own has Woodstock residents like Christy Carlisle concerned.
"He's just thin looking, malnourished," said Carlisle. Thrasher says it's only been two weeks since Joe has fallen ill. But others say this has been going on for at least a month.
"My best friend and another friend went down there and they were trying their best to get it up. It just didn't want to get up and once a horse is down for so long you know that's not good," said Carlisle.
Early Friday morning, Thrasher was visited by Woodstock Police.
"They told me that I had until 7 o'clock tonight to get him off my property," said Thrasher. A friend of Thrasher's is expected to pick up Joe and take him to a veterinarian in Leeds.
Thrasher says he's been giving Joe medicine and trying to get him to eat. During our interview, Joe was grazing on some grass.
"If they get bad hay it can take them down quick and it's hard for them to get over it," said Thrasher. This isn't the first time Joe has had colic. Thrasher says he's fought the illness before and recovered after time.
But that explanation isn't keeping police out of the picture. As of 8am Friday night, Joe had not been taken off the property. Thrasher his friend with a trailer cannot pick him up until Saturday morning.
He says he's cleared it with authorities.
