Adequate Cable Size? - Electrical - DIY Chatroom - DIY Home ...

Quote:

My farm service consists of a 10KVA transformer and 80 amp breaker and comes in overhead. It then runs down a pole to a splitter box. 4/0 aluminum cable is run underground for 1050 ft.at which point it comes back up to a second splitter box on a pole. From that point, a 2/0 aluminum cable goes back underground for 250 ft. to my house. House is a 100 amp service. Is that cable sized properly to feed that house? Can I run a line from the second splitter box underground for 250 ft. and feed a shop with a 100amp service?

I dont think that another 100a on the 4/0 gauge cable is wise.
If it was all 2/0 gauge it would be ok.
But your stretching it a bit using 4/0 gauge.
You could get away with it depending on the load,
and weather it is constant or intermittant.
